High-fat diet may injure neurons

Eating a high fat diet and become obese may have damaged neurons or nerve cells in that part of the brain that control body weight.
Joshua Thaler and his colleagues at the University of Washington in Seattle studied the brains of rodents for the short-term and long term effects of eating a high-fat diet and also detected damage to weight –regulation neurons.
It is not yet clear whether the neuron damage is permanent, but it may be contribute to weight gain.
